Administration Fellowship

The University of Chicago’s Section of Emergency Medicine is recruiting qualified applicants for a 24-month Emergency Medicine Administrative Fellowship to begin July 1, 2025.

We seek emergency medicine residency graduates with an interest in EM Operations and Administration who will work closely with administrators from both our Medical Leadership and Operations Leadership teams. The fellow will have immersive experiences in the following:

  • ED Operations Management
  • Healthcare Analytics
  • Healthcare Delivery Science and Innovation
  • Quality and Staff & Patient Satisfaction

The position offers protected time for professional development while working clinically as an attending in our emergency department at a reduced effort of six shifts a month (shifts are 8 hours in length) with opportunities to moonlight. There is an option for earning a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business for fellows who have not previously earned an MBA.

Primary Clinical Site

The University of Chicago is a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, STEMI Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, VAD Center, Burn Center, and Level III Perinatal Center located on the Southside of Chicago. Our Adult Emergency Department sees over 75,000 patients annually from our diverse and medically underserved patient population. The ED is staffed by a diverse group of attendings with a wide range of academic interests. Our Section is active in research, healthcare delivery science, social EM, ultrasound, simulation, medical education, international medicine, and aeromedical transport. We have one of the oldest, 3-year emergency medicine residency programs in the country with many alumni becoming leaders in the field of Emergency Medicine.

Fellow Pre-Requisites

– Graduate of an ACGME-accredited U.S. Emergency Medicine Residency, BE/BC in Emergency Medicine
– Qualified to work as an attending physician at University of Chicago
– Must hold an Illinois Medical License and DEA license prior to starting fellowship

– A cover letter describing your interest in EM Administration and relevant prior experience
– CV
– Three letters of support (one from your Residency Program Director)
– If interested in pursuing an MBA at Booth, apply directly to the Full Time MBA Program. It is highly recommended to submit a complete application with a GRE score by the Round 1 deadline.
