Applicant Information
The EMS fellow has access to many unique EMS opportunities throughout Chicago:
- Perform Medical Direction for the Chicago EMS System
- Attend Region 11 – Chicago EMS Medical Directors Consortium (MDC) meetings
- Fly as a Flight Physician with University of Chicago Aeromedical Network (UCAN)
- Field clinical time with Chicago Fire Department EMS
- Work with Community Paramedics in the CFD Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) unit
- Collaborate with the Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement (CARE) alternate 911 response team for behavioral health crisis
- Participate in specialized EMS trainings including vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, and confined space rescue
- Complete Basic SWAT training and be eligible for call outs with the NIPAS SWAT team
- Learn mass gathering event medicine at the Chicago Marathon and other events
- Participate in disaster preparedness exercises
- Teach EMS to EMTs, Paramedics, medical students, residents, nurses, physicians
- Contribute to community focused initiatives and emergency skills training
- Procedure labs for EMS Physician skills
