Applicant Information

The EMS fellow has access to many unique EMS opportunities throughout Chicago:

  • Perform Medical Direction for the Chicago EMS System 
  • Attend Region 11 – Chicago EMS Medical Directors Consortium (MDC) meetings
  • Fly as a Flight Physician with University of Chicago Aeromedical Network (UCAN)
  • Field time with Chicago Fire Department EMS
  • Work with Community Paramedics in the CFD Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) unit
  • Collaborate with the Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement (CARE) alternate 911 response team for  behavioral health crisis 
  • Participate in specialized EMS trainings including vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, and confined space rescue
  • Complete Basic SWAT training and be eligible for call outs with the NIPAS SWAT team
  • Learn mass gathering event medicine at the Chicago Marathon
  • Participate in disaster preparedness exercises 
  • Teach EMS to EMTs, Paramedics, medical students, residents, nurses, physicians
  • Contribute to community focused initiatives and emergency skills training
